The Boat - "Epiphany"

"Epiphany", so christened, is an LC 40.2 design Class 40 ocean racing yacht, designed by Frenchman Francois Lucas, to meet both the Class 40 Association requirements and the Category 0 international standard (Category 0 being the highest standard for offshore racing yachts). This 'go anywhere' yacht is intended to be raced 'everywhere' and is designed to comply with Round the World organisers requirements.

Epiphany is 12.18m (40') long, 4.4m (14.5') wide, and weighs 4650kgs . The Mast is 19m high from the waterline and has 8 sails. The hull is made from an Eglass/foam composite (Carbon is only permitted in the mast and boom). The design also allows for 1500L of moveable water ballast, to alter sailing trim. Epiphany does not have a canting keel as it is not permitted in the Class rules. The keel is 3m long with a bulb weight of 1900kg.

There will be no innersprung kingsize bed, no icemaker, no espresso machine, no hot shower, no heater, no aircon, no washing machine, no clothes dryer, no hairdryer even. Excitingly the planned inconveniences include; a single burner stove, hammock style bed, cold freshwater shower (weekly), ambient air vents, warm waterproof salt-encrusted clothing and an awesome selection of dehydrated food that any self respecting takeaway outlet would be proud of.
